What are EPA and DHA good for?

The main Omega 3 fat in your brain – essential for good brain function.

DHA is a long-chain omega-3 fatty acid which is found in cell membranes throughout the body and helps to transmit messages between nerves.

Usually from fish. But fish don’t actually produce Omega 3, they eat krill that have eaten algae.

Why is Omega 3 from algae better than
nuts and seeds such as flaxseeds or chia seeds?

The beneficial compounds from Omega 3 are called DHA and EPA.

You can get Omega 3 from nuts and seeds but these contain a substance called ALA. The body then has to convert the ALA into the beneficial compounds of DHA and EPA but conversion rate is extremely low (approx. 2 - 5%).

You will have to eat an unmanageable amount of seeds and nuts to get the DHA and EPA health benefits.

Why do we use Omega 3 from Schizochytrium Sp algae?

Microalgae are one of the oldest plant organisms found on the whole planet.

We have chosen an algae called Schizochytrium Sp which is well researched for safety.

They play an important role in the marine food chain as well as producing many nutrients that we know to be vital for human health.

Although algae are found in the millions in the water, they are so tiny that they can’t be seen by the human eye. The only time we can actually see them is when they clump together in the water. They convert sunlight and carbon dioxide into oxygen (photosynthesis) and it is thought that as much as 75% of our oxygen comes from algae.

How do we extract the oils from the algae?

Our algae is grown in a controlled environment which is contaminant free.

The algae is harvested and processed using a gentle water extraction and pressing process.

The Algae oil is then transferred to containers for vacuum packing and freezing. It is then thawed as required and encapsulated into our vegan capsules.
